RFID Breakfast

On Tuesday I attended KTN & GS1’s ‘Wake up to RFID – breakfast with chips’. This was an informative breakfast where we discussed all things RFID (Radio frequency identification). RFID is the technology used in mobile phones also known as ‘NFC’. RFID chips are currently used in passports, Oyster  cards and banks cards. RFID readers have already been implemented into a small number of mobile handsets. In the coming years NFC is set to become a massive part of our day to day lives and transform the way we use our mobile phone. When a NFC enabled phone comes into a close proximity of a RFID chip it triggers an action. This may be for content (such as a marketing video) to be sent to your phone.  Alternatively the action could be set so your phone pays for an item that you have purchased.

I attended this event to help better my understanding of NFC and learn of how it is currently being used in healthcare.  The event was a small yet focused group. Many of those who attended are currently pioneering the development and adoption of NFC.  It was an interesting discussion and I found it useful in terms of how we can and will be able to use this medium going forward.

I was however shocked to learn that the greatest advocate and one of the largest investors in NFC is the US military. The US are also rumoured to be able to activate ‘passive’ RFID chips from up to 30ft away. This rumour becomes even more shocking when placed next to the millions of pounds currently being spent by governments on integrating RFID chips into passports & national ID cards.

Social Media Marketing

Social media has become one of the best ways for brands to connect and engage with their target audience. When devised and implemented intelligently this can lead to a huge increase in loyalty, business growth and profit.

Methodology

Every Social Media Strategy that I devise and execute begins with an in-depth analysis on how well the client is currently performing (within search engines, mobile, press, social media etc). I then use the brands customer metrics, sales and website analytics to look into their clients behavioral economics. Mathematics of certainty is applied (when client data makes this possible) to make statements rather then predictions within certain areas. These may include website traffic, minimum number of sales, profit etc.

Quantize

The information attained is then benchmarked against their competitors and from the resulting analysis a social media strategy and marketing plan is forged. This strategic documentation takes into consideration other given factors such as timeframe, budget, resource etc.

Social Media Analysis

Once the social media strategy and marketing plan has been agreed I implement and project manage the agreed actions in order to deliver the expected results. All of the results attained are fully quantifiable and reported back to the client.

PPC Strategist

PPC (Pay Per Click) is a form of online marketing that allows your business to only pay (a set fee) each time someone engages with your brand. This engagement can occur by someone clicking through to your website, watching your promotional video, viewing your Facebook page, Following you on Twitter etc.  PPC can also allows to target and filter audiences by specified parameters. The image below is of 'Clean Force'. I have optimized their advert so that it only appears for niche terms that deliver quality traffic. Furthermore as the business is a service based business the advert will only be seen (and therefore clicked on) when the searches that occur within Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

So far (over the past three months) Clean Force's PPC spend has been just under £1300. This has in turn led to three major contracts being signed and a number of smaller jobs all ina ll equating to over £32,000 work of business. It was estimated by Clean Force in November 2012 that the business generated from £32,000 revenue will lead to about £11,000 profit over the next year. Due to this initial success I will be building Clean Force's new website and carrying out a substantial amount of other marketing services for them towards the end of December 2012.
